During my career I have gained expertise in delivery of a wide range of projects from a scientific/editorial perspective, including:
- Strategic scientific communications (e.g. publication plans, scientific platforms)
- Publications (e.g. primary and secondary manuscripts, narrative reviews, congress reports, sponsored supplements)
- Advisory board meetings
- Scientific congress submissions and materials

I have extensive experience training junior writers, mentoring experienced writers, and providing senior editorial/strategic review.

Therapy areas
I have worked across a broad range of therapy areas in my career and have gained extensive recent experience in:
- Infectious diseases: viral hepatitis (B, C and D), cytomegalovirus, SARS-CoV-2, HIV, influenza
- Cardiovascular diseases: atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, hypertension, heart failure, pulmonary arterial hypertension
- Metabolic syndrome disorders: diabetes mellitus, obesity, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis/fatty liver disease
- Kidney disease and related conditions: chronic kidney disease, hyperphosphataemia, glomerular diseases
In the past, I’ve also worked in many other areas including haematology/oncology, allergy, anaemia, ophthalmology, respiratory disease, Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia and over-the-counter cough and cold medications.

Experience
I completed a PhD in cardiovascular pharmacology (William Harvey Research Institute, University of London) before moving into medical communications almost 25 years ago. Since then I have gained over 20 years of experience of medical writing and scientific team leadership within agency settings, initially at Medicus and Gardiner-Caldwell Communications, and most recently at Elements Communications (Obsidian). Before becoming a Freelance Medical Writer in 2021, I was Scientific Strategy Director at Obsidian and a member of the Obsidian Group Leadership Team with responsibility for scientific strategy across the group and scientific leadership for a multi-client business unit.
